Wakefield School

Wakefield School

Wakefield School is an independent school located in The Plains, Virginia. It began as a small school in Marshall, but eventually gained rights to Archwood Manor, where it rests today on its hill. Wakefield School split off from Wakefield Country Day after a dispute about the next headmaster and whether the school should be religious. Wakefield is currently non-denominational.

"Seek the challenge, Make a Difference, Live an Extraordinary Life."

Wakefield has very strong academics, and an up-and-coming athletics program. All but two of Wakefield's teams have made it to the VISAA State Tournament, and in 2007 Varsity Girl's Soccer won the State Championship. The Boy's Basketball team also became Conference Champions with a good showing from all its members.

Theatre Wakefield's theatre program, while it lacks a stage, is another of the school's strong points. The performance of Kaufman and Hart's "You Can't Take It With You" caused a Wayside Theatre representative to remark that "it was the best amateur performance [he] had ever seen." Of note was Hunter Morrison, as Kolenkhov, and Ian Fontaine, who played The Man in a stirring cameo.
