John F. Kennedy University is a private university located in Pleasant Hill, California, with satellite campuses in Campbell and Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay Area, and a satellite opening in the Santa Cruz/Central Coast area for Fall 2008 offering an MA in Counseling Psychology [cite web

] . It was founded in 1964 to focus on providing continuing opportunities for adult education. Enrollment is approximately 1700 (as of 2006) with no campus residences. The faculty consists of over 700 adjunct faculty employed in their subject areas in addition to about 60 full-time academics.

JFK University has five schools — Education and Liberal Arts, Holistic Studies, Law, Management, and Professional Psychology. The University also has a Continuing & Extended Education program.

John F. Kennedy University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

As of July 17, 2008, JFKU declared its intent to affiliate with the National University System. JFK will retain its name, identity and accreditation as an independent university. [cite web

Graduate School of Professional Psychology

The school offers Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Sport Psychology and a Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD), as well as certificates in Exercise and Sport Performance and in Sport Management.

chool of Holistic Studies

The school offers the following distinctive programs: Arts & Consciousness; Consciousness & Transformative Studies; Counseling Psychology; Holistic Health Education; Integral Psychology; and Integral Theory. The school hosts semi-annual Open Houses and Symposiums in January and July of each year, as well as ongoing seminars and workshops that are open to the public.

John F. Kennedy University School of Law offers a four-year, part-time Juris Doctor. Beginning in Fall 2007, the law school will also offer a California Bar approved full-time program.Fact|date=January 2008 The school is accredited by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California, but does not have or currently seek accreditation by the American Bar Association.

The Law School runs the JFKU Elder Law Clinic. The clinic, opened in September 2005, provides the elderly with free legal assistance to deal with financial abuse or exploitation. The school regularly sponsors educational events open to the public. Recent events have included a panel on domestic surveillance and presidential war powers; a discussion with The Honorable Thelton Henderson and screening of his biography, and a panel discussion on the constitutionality of the California High School Exit Exam.

The School of Law and the law student editorial staff publish the John F. Kennedy University Law Review.

chool of Management

The school offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). The school of Management also offers a Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies with a Paralegal Certificate embedded in the program. Students have the option of enrolling in the BA program or just the Paralegal Certificate program. The program was recommended for Accreditation by the ABA. The full ABA must vote on this recommendation and will do so at its meeting in February 2009.

Department of Museum Studies

John F. Kennedy University is home to one of the nation's oldest museum studies programs, founded in 1974 by Deborah Kirschman.Fact|date=January 2008 In 2004, the department re-located its library, faculty offices and classrooms to the university's Berkeley campus. It offers coursework that leads to a certificate or a master's degree in museum studies, with specializations in museum education and interpretation; collections management; and administration. The department regularly sponsors lectures, workshops and other events for museum professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area and works with many Bay Area museums including the Oakland Museum of California, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Bay Area Discovery Museum and Chabot Space and Science Center to train future museum professionals.

In January 2008, California Association of Museums (CAM) announced that the University's Museum Studies program will be the recipient of the 2008 CAMMY Award in the category of "Service to the Field" for the involvement of their alumni and faculty in museum associations and their commitment to furthering and strengthening the museum field, especially in California.Fact|date=January 2008
