Network Status Management

Network Status Management

Network Status Management (NSM) is a new category of software solutions that help mature, next generation mobile carriers to directly address their radio access network (RAN) cost issues. NSM technologies combine the capabilities of traditional radio access engineering techniques with advances in automation and workflow management, allowing OSS-like coordination and consistency to be pushed into the radio sub-system for the first time.

The operational expense of engineering the radio access network is one of the largest costs incurred in running a mobile network. The processes used to manage network status today are highly inefficient, and depend heavily on human resources, with surprisingly little automation or standardization. Studies of actual situations have shown that existing RAN engineering processes deliver an average productivity of just 35%. NSM helps streamlining these processes by encapsulating expertise and automating processes. NSM also allows senior management to use network intelligence to gain business control over their largest asset, providing levers to direct investment decisions.

Actix Ltd. coined the NSM term in February 2008 with the launch of its Network Status Management product suite during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
