Mount Albert Grammar School Observatory

Mount Albert Grammar School Observatory

Mount Albert Grammar School Observatory is a school astronomical observatory in Mount Albert, Auckland, New Zealand. Built in 2007, the observatory has a Meade LX200R 12" Schmidt-Cassegrain F/10 telescope. The observatory uses an SBIG ST7XME CCD camera for imaging and photometry, and is fully computer controlled. The MAGS Observatory is used for both school education and active research.

The Mount Albert Grammar School (MAGS) is among the few schools in New Zealand that have active observatories, and is in the position of having the largest and most advanced telescope in any school in New Zealand. Students and their supervisors participate in scientific astrophysics research. Research projects will include search for exoplanets by both gravitational microlensing and transit method.

The MAGS Observatory is the official location of the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RANSZ) Education Section. The goal of this section is to promote astronomy education to the widest audience possible.
