John K. Hillers

John K. Hillers (1843, Hanover, Germany – 1925) was an American government photographer. He was originally hired as a boatman for a geographical survey expedition led by John Wesley Powell in 1871, and became the expedition photographer in 1872. He went on to spend twenty years exploring a photographing the American west, eventually focusing on ethnology, and is known particularly for his portraits of Native Americans.
