A watchnight service is a late-night Christian church service.

In Scotland, the Watchnight service is a popular [ [http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article766847.ece Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day Services -Times Online ] ] ceremony marking the beginning of Christmas Day. In Anglican or Roman Catholic churches, this ceremony is often replicated in the form of a Midnight Mass or Eucharist (see: Christmas Eve)
