American Association of State Climatologists

The American Association of State Climatologists (AASC) is a professional scientific organisation for climatologists in the United States, which was founded in 1976.

There are currently 47 state climatologists in the AASC, one from each represented state. These state climatologists are appointed within each state and are recognised by the National Climatic Data Center, with whom the AASC collaborates. There are also associate members of the AASC, bringing the total membership to approximately 150. Members and associate members of the AASC perform various climatological services and research.

Some members recently came under scrutiny for their "skeptical" views toward human-forced climate change [http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v445/n7130/full/445806b.html] . However, at least three of the organization's full members (Christy, Alabama; Mote, Washington; Robinson, New Jersey) served as contributing authors [http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report/ar4/wg1/ar4-wg1-annexes.pdf] for the Fourth Assessment Report of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The AASC also publishes the "Journal of Service Climatology".
