- Ted and Peter
"Ted and Peter", also known as "The Snooker Commentators", are recurring characters created and played by David Mitchell and Robert Webb respectively. They first appeared in the
BBC Radio 4sketch show " That Mitchell and Webb Sound" and the televisionversion, " That Mitchell and Webb Look" on BBC Two. Ted and Peter are a pair of jaded ex- snookerplayers, turned commentators, who instead of talking about the game, end up drinking and talking about the darker, shadier side of the game.
In the first series of "That Mitchell and Webb Sound", Ted and Peter were obessed with drink, however in series two, they moved onto other subjects, including
sex, money, violence, television, homosexualityand suicide.
In "That Mitchell and Webb Look", the sketches were repeated, but also included other jokes, mainly involving what they said whilst not talking into their microphones. Most of the time they are drinking. If they are not drinking, then they are waiting for one, or making their own.
Ted (Mitchell) is balding, smokes, wears a grey cardigan, and has been divorced several times. He also starts every sketch, often saying "Oh, and that's a bad miss!", except for their second sketch in episode 6, in which he says "Oh, and that's a cracking pot!" Peter wears glasses, a purple suit and tie, and is a homosexual, which unnevered Ted who was for a time
homophobic, but he has since overcome his fear. Peter claimed that he had been "Living a lie for 42 years," but he mainly came out because his wife was going to divorce him, so he cashed in on the exclusive before his wife did. Both having been working together, on and off, for 15 years in the same small, cramped, airless booth.
In the last episode of series 1 of "That Mitchell and Webb Look", Ted and Peter sang a special snooker version of "
The Lady in Red" called "Table Of Reds". The full version of "Table of Reds" was performed at the end of each show during Mitchell and Webb's theatre tour " The Two Faces of Mitchell and Webb". The song was performed live during Comic Relief 2007 with Chris de Burgh, singer and writer of Lady in Red.
