Viking Airlines is a privately owned charter airline with head office in Stockholm, Sweden and main ground bases in Athens and Heraklion, Greece. It operates charter flights for European tour operators. The airline was established in 2003 and started operations on 10 May 2003. Viking Airlines has its own flight training programme and aircraft maintenance technicians. The GSA (General Sales Agent) for Viking Airlines in Italy and Belgium is Anglo European Ltd (www.angloeuropean.com) based in the United Kingdom.

History

Viking Airlines started operations on 10 May 2003, with two McDonnel Douglas MD-83, with 161 economy seats in leather which are used for charter operations throughout Europe.In 2004 another sister aircraft was added to the fleet and in 2006 the fourth MD-83 was introduced.

Services

Since late 2005, Viking has operated regular flights to Erbil in Iraq. The airline plans flights from Stockholm to Athens and Beirut from March 2006, though the Beirut flight launch has been delayed to April 2006 and was indefinitely suspended due to the 2006 Lebanese-Israeli war and conflict in the region.Viking also operates regular flights from Dublin and Lisbon to Heraklion, and vice versa. Since 2008, from Newcastle to Heraklion and visa versa, on behalf of the Kosmar/XL leisure group. Passengers always have a meal and complimentry drinks onboard, and if the flight is longer than 3 hours, a hot meal is guaranteed.

Fleet

The Viking Airlines fleet includes the following aircraft (at 18 June 2008):

*1 McDonnell Douglas MD-83
*2 Boeing 737-800 being added end of 2008

The other 3 they had were respectively sold to (2) Sky Wings and the other one to Khors Aircompany who operates it for Kish Air

2 boeing 737-800 are on order and will be in the fleet by the end of 2008
