Paul Curran (born 15 January 1961) [http://www.cyclebase.nl/?lang=en&news=en&pc=normal&page=renner&db=m&id=3540 Cyclebase profile] ] was a racing cyclist who dominated the British amateur scene for several years. His career ended when he broke his back in a serious accident during the Tour of the Pennines in 1996. [ [http://www.paulcurran.ndo.co.uk/HomePage.html paulcurran.ndo.co.uk] ] He was born in Thornaby, Cleveland.

Curran won several Commonwealth Games medals and also competed in the 1984 Olympic Games and the 1988 Olympic Games [ [http://www.olympics.org.uk/athleterecord.aspx?at=975 Olympic Profile at olympics.org.uk] ] .

With wins in top amateur races in France, Curran could probably have secured a professional contract with a continental cycling team. He preferred to remain in Britain however.
