States headed by Elizabeth II

The number of states headed by Queen Elizabeth II has varied during her age|1952|2|6 years on the throne, all-together seeing her as head of state of a total of thirty-three countries during this period. The 16 that presently have her as sovereign, known as Commonwealth realms, are shown in light green, while the remainder show in dark green the reign of Elizabeth II as their monarch, from their independence until their adoption of a republican form of government. Fiji is a unique case, having become a republic through a military coup in 1987, but its Great Council of Chiefs continues to recognise Elizabeth II as queen, or Paramount Chief, though this is only as a ceremonial head of state, with no role in government at all.
