Bani Israel Graveyard

The Bani Israel Graveyard is the only Jewish cemetery in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. This cemetery is a part of the larger Mewa Shah Graveyard. Over the years, the area has been reduced. There is growing awareness and appreciation in recent years to the remaining Jewish sites in and around the city. While official numbers are static, the city once boaster a thriving Jewish community believed to have numbered around 10,000 at one time, many have resettled outside of Tel Aviv, Israel but return to visit. While Pakistan is a predominantly Muslim country, many citizens accept the Jewish "natives" as being sons of the soil, unfortunately the continuing conflict in the middle east, and Pakistan's official support to the Palestinians and the Arab states has often polarized "official" public opinions viz-a-viz the repatriation of Pakistani Jews.
