Shaler Area High School serves ninth through twelfth graders in the Shaler Area School District as of September 13, 2008.

History

Shaler Area High School was established in 1971 from the merger of Etna, Millvale, and Shaler High Schools. The current building was constructed during 1978 and 1979. In 2006, the school board approved a plan to regroup grades within its schools, including moving ninth grade students to the high school. $30 million in renovations were budgeted to create space for classrooms and to enlarge other school facilities. Shaler Area High School is a member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association and fields teams in the following sports by PIAA school size classification:

The pit band for "Grease" was nominated for Best Student Orchestra in the Gene Kelly Awards, but did not win.

The Shaler Area Choirs at the high school have been competing for twenty-plus years in the Festivals of Music competitions under the direction of Mrs. Karen Frederick.
