Scott Cam

Scott Cam

Scott Cam (born November 25, 1962) is an Australian television personality appearing on several lifestyle programmes on the Nine Network.

Early career

Scott is a qualified carpenter who did a three-year apprenticeship with his brother’s business.

Scott grew up in Sydney's Bondi and, after completing school at Waverley College and his carpentry apprenticeship, set off in an old four-wheel drive to explore Australia. He worked on sheep and cattle stations, at a remote coastal resort at Exmouth in Western Australia, built boats and worked in Fremantle's docklands.

In 1990, after a five-year stint working and travelling around Australia, he set up his own building business, which now employs four people.

Television (and media) career

Scott first appeared on Nine's "Backyard Blitz" in 2000 alongside Jamie Durie doing building segments until the show's cancellation in 2006. In between, he appeared on the successful "Renovation Rescue" (2004-present) before appearing in his own live lifestyle program "Our Place", however this was cancelled after just five episodes in 2006. Since 2008 he appears on "Domestic Blitz".

Scott enjoys the frenetic pace of television and through his work on "Backyard Blitz" was able to see just how much can be achieved around the house and garden in a couple of days.

In addition to his television work, Scott has written two books on building and renovating: "Out The Back" and the follow-up, "Home Maintenance For Knuckleheads". He is also a presenter on the Triple M Saturday morning breakfast show "Wrong Side of the Bed".

Personal life

He enjoys camping and fishing and on spare weekends manages to escape with his family to their farm at Mudgee in NSW. His idea of a perfect weekend is hanging around a barbie with friends, a few steaks and a few beers.

Scott Cam met his wife Ann on what was supposed to be a brief visit home to Sydney while travelling and working around Australia. He decided to stay in Sydney. Three years later they married and now have three children, Charlie, 8, and twins Sarah and Bill, 5.

Trivia

* In 2006 a portrait of Scott called A working class man by Michael Mucci, a candidate for the Archibald Prize, won the Packing Room Prize, an award whose winner is chosen by the packing staff at the gallery.
