The Shire of Phillip Island was a Local Government Area located in Western Port about convert|120|km|mi|0 south of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of convert|101.05|km2|sqmi|1, and existed from 1928 until 1994.

History

Phillip Island was initially incorporated as part of the Phillip Island district on 8 September 1871, which was, however, based on the mainland. This district became the Shire of Phillip Island and Woolamai on 24 December 1874. A severance movement was successful in creating a separate Shire of Phillip Island on 18 September 1928, with the remainder ultimately becoming the Shire of Bass.cite book|title=Victorian Municipal Directory|year=1992|publisher=Arnall & Jackson|location=Brunswick|pages=592-593, 809-810 Accessed at State Library of Victoria, La Trobe Reading Room.]

On 2 December 1994, the Shire was abolished, and merged with Shire of Bass, Borough of Wonthaggi and parts of Cranbourne, Korumburra and Woorayl into the Bass Coast Shire.
