Hillcrest Christian College

Hillcrest Christian College

Hillcrest Christian College is a private Christian school located in Reedy Creek, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

History

The early concept for Hillcrest Christian College began in the late 1970s when members of Reedy Creek Baptist Church (Palm Beach Baptist, as it was known at the time) raised concerns about the double standards they saw in secular education. They believed that, as parents, it was their responsibility to have a greater involvement in the education of their children and hence established a steering committee for the formation of a Christian School.

Hillcrest Christian College (then known as Southern Gold Coast Christian Community School) took its first students in 1982 when it enrolled 37 children from years 1 - 7. During these early years, the College operated on the Church grounds before moving, in August 1986, to its present site at Reedy Creek. During these years, the school has continued to grow and develop, both in numbers of students and diversity of facilities.

Since its inception, Hillcrest has remained a ministry of Reedy Creek Baptist Church to both the Christian and wider community of the Gold Coast.

Gifted and Talented Program

Hillcrest demonstrates high academic excellence and gives a great oppurtunity with those who have high standards in the academic area. It is called the Gifted and Talented program. Hillcrest also holds many CSIRO workshops which have been commented on by the students and shows very good compliments.

Performing Arts

The central issue in Arts education is the quality of the experience - this is how motivation arises and learning occurs. In every learning situation, the quality of the experience has been found to be a valid predictor of engagement and of school achievement in general. It is therefore their aim to make these experiences readily available to the performing arts students of Hillcrest Christian College.

Music, Drama and Dance are an integral part of the school curriculum at Hillcrest. All children from P–12 are encouraged to become literate and creative through the acquisition of skills, knowledge and understanding in all areas of Music, Drama and Dance.

port

Hillcrest provides students with several outlets to the sports they want to play. They compete in the Northern Gold Coast interschool competition. Offering sports such as Australian rules football, Basketball, Netball, Rugby League, Soccer, Touch Football, Volleyball, Tennis and Cricket.
