* 1978's Tropical Storm Bess - hit Nautla, Mexico.

Bess was used for ten tropical cyclones in the Western Pacific:
* 1952's Typhoon Bess
* 1957's Typhoon Bess - hit southern Japan.
* 1960's Typhoon Bess (1960 TY 30)
* 1963's Super Typhoon Bess (1963 STY 20) - hit southern Japan.
* 1965's Super Typhoon Bess (1965 STY 34)
* 1968's Typhoon Bess (1968 TY 19)
* 1971's Super Typhoon Bess (1971 STY 30)
* 1974's Typhoon Bess (1974 TY 27) - hit Hainan Island and the northern Philippines.
* 1979's Typhoon Bess (1979 TY 02)
* 1982's Super Typhoon Bess (1982 STY 11) - hit southern Japan and caused 59 deaths.

The name Bess was retired after the 1982 season, and was replaced by Brenda.
