Nettakallappa Circle ( _kn. ನೆಟ್ಟಕಲ್ಲಪ್ಪ ಸರ್ಕಲ್) is an important traffic circle in the city of Bangalore, India. It is in the South Bangalore area, where there are lot of cultural regions.

It is an important junction with lots of traffic, lots of road lead into this circle in south Bangalore.

Etymology

The circle derives its name from the great freedom fighter Nettakellappa Chandrasekara Gowda. Anotherlegend says that it was originally called Natyakelappa Halli, subsequently anglicized by the British..

Prominent Personalities

Lot of prominent personalities are found near the Nettakallappa circle. The important Nettakallappa family originated near this circle. Folk tales also have it that this circle gets the name from the nomadic Siddan tribes found in the Western ghats.

History

Other than folk tales, what is surely known is that Tipu Sultan once visited the place. Soon after the battle of 1782,he retired to Bangalore for a break and camped at the circle. The Siddan tribes entertained him and his troops. In recognition of their services, he is said to have promised the Lal Baug to them. As a seal of friendship, the Siddan tribes promised thatall their subsequent generations would remain anti-British anti-nationals. However, it is ironic that while the current generation of the Siddan tribes remain anti-national, they have a marked leaning towards British socialism and in general, British culture.
