Rise to fame

1979–2000: Early life and education

Born Jeanette Aw Ee-Ping (欧燕苹) to Chinese parents. Her father has Peranakan ancestry while mother is a Hokkien. Jeanette is the youngest of three children, she has an older sister and older brother. She attended Raffles Girls' Primary School, Crescent Girls' School, National Junior College and National University of Singapore.

2001–2002: Early years

Jeanette Aw was the champion (out of six contestants) of a talent search contest titled "Route To Glamour", organised by the now defunct television network, MediaWorks. She was also awarded the Best Performer and Best Newcomer on the same year in her first year in Mediaworks. Later that year she was invited to co-star in a Taiwanese production.

2002:Joining Mediacorp

In 2002,Aw left Mediaworks due to her studies. In the same year,She joined Mediacorp. She starred as Fan Keke in the most watched drama of the year,Beautiful connection. Later she went to Taiwan to film the idol series Kiss of a toast II. Jeanette won Best Newcomer award in Star Awards 2002.

2003:Rise in popularity

In 2003, Jeanette Aw starred in True Heroes as Chen Huimin, but it did not leave much of an impression in viewers. Then she starred in the most watched drama of the year,Holland V. She played as Mo Jingjing, the 2nd female lead of the drama. Jingjing was a simple girl with low intelligence. She gained popularity from that drama eventually leading to her first actress nomination in Star Awards 2003. But lost the award to her co-star from the same show,Chen Liping. But she also won her very first Top 10 most popular female artistes award.

2004: Becoming First Female Lead

After the mega success of Holland V,Jeanette was seen as a possible successor of the Ah Jie(Big sister) status. With her popularity, she also endorsed Sk Jewelry. She starred in her first female lead role as Wen Qian in Spice siblings. Followed by two more dramas as the first female lead role in A Child Of Hope II and The Champion. She was again nominated for Best Actress for her excellent performance in A Child Of Hope II and also won the Top 10 most popular female artistes award at Star Awards 2004.

2005: Less Productive

In 2005, after two years of non stop filming, Jeanette became less productive. In January, she was involved in a Chinese new year drama- 'My Lucky Charm'- she played Fang Lixiang, a Taiji master with body odour. She once again colleborate with her favourite actress Huang Biren, who played her mother in the drama.

Jeanette only filmed one drama in 2005, which was named 'The Rainbow Connection', she played a talented dancer who has stage fright- Ding Ying Ying. This drama involves a grand cast with members from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Jeanette as a dancer herself, had many dancing scenes in the drama too.

Jeanette didn't win a Best Actress nomination in Star Awards 2005 for the first time since she first joined Mediacorp, she still managed to get her third Top 10 award.

2006: Low Points

In 2006, with the uprising of Jesseca Liu, Felicia Chin and other MediaCorp princesses, Jeanette became less outstanding among her generation. In mid June, Jeanette played in the drama 'C.I.D.', she played a forensic assistant- 'Fang Jiayi' who suffers from mental illness after discovering about her past. Although this was a very challenging role, but she again didn't manage to strike an outbreak or a nomination for this role.

Later that year, she filmed 'Through It All', her role is called Cheng Xiaoxuan, a designer who works in a small hotel managed by her family. Although Jeanette is the second female lead of this drama, she wasn't involved in many important scenes filmed in Malaysia.

In Star Awards 2006, Jeanette got her forth Top 10 award.

2007: More Dramas

In 2007, as the rising of the 7 Princesses, Jeanette was seen as the most outstanding princess. However, the other princesses still managed to get more attention that year.

In January, Jeanette filmed 'The Peak' in which she played Zhong Xiao Yang, a ship construction worker who ended up in a wheelchair in order to save her boyfriend. This drama was filmed when Jeanette lost her godmother, many expected her to be nominated again for Best Actress but she didn't manage to get back to the list.

In July, she was involved in 'Switched!', her role in the drama is Jiang Xinhui, a famous actress.

2008–present:The comeback

Jeanette spent four months filming in China for Shaolin Warriors. Then, she starred as Xiaorou in Rhythm of life. Followed by Lin Keyi in The defining moment, she was praised for her good acting. Then came her big deserved opportunity:The Little Nyonya. Several actresses were auditioned for the role as the main lead actress,Aw got the role. Despite criticisms that she won't do well,Aw proved her haters wrong with her dual roles of the mother-daughter roles. The drama was such a huge success that it became the most watched drama in 15 years. Since then,Aw has improved a lot. She gained a lot of fans through her hardwork and won several awards.

2009–present:Ah Jie status

Jeanette was named the 3rd Ah Jie following the footsteps of Fann Wong. In the first half of 2009,Aw was busy with Endorsements and events and The Peranakan Ball, where she paired with Dai Yamgtian for the 2nd time. In the 2nd half of the year,Aw acted in Together with Yangtian for the 3rd time. She also earned 2 Best Actress nominations for the drama.

2012–present: Future projects

Jeanette Aw just finished filming her China Blockbuster drama precious which consists of 30 episodes. She plays the main lead role. She'll once again be collaborating with Dai Yang Tian for the fifth time in three years. Precious is the remake of The Little Nyonya. But this time Aw will be playing three roles instead of two roles. The three roles is mother Fang Xi Ruo and daughter Ling Qian Jin and Qian Jin's granddaughter. Filming of Precious just ended 3 months ago. Aw will appear in Double Bonus in a photo with Zoe Tay. Right now she has finished filming Rescue 995. She plays the 1st female lead role,Shi Hao Ran. This role will be much different from her recent emotional roles. Shi Hao Ran is a good and righteous girl, but she is very bubbly and cheerful always. Aw recently announced that she'll take on a non-mediacorp drama, filming will begin in November. The drama is titled as "Jump!". After filming for this show ends,in January she'll film a new drama titled Absolutely Charming. She will once again play the main female lead. She will play as a beautiful; young fox spirit. After being caught flirting with the Jade emperor by the Heavenly queen, she was banished to Earth with a slap mark on her face, with very very ugly looks and a hoarse voice and manly mannerisms. In order to go back to Heaven and regain her beauty, she must make a man fall in love with her despite her hideous looks and hoarse voice and disgusting mannerisms. There are rumors of a sequel to The Little Nyonya going to be produced with Aw as the lead actress.Aw will be starring in another new local drama, further details unknown at the moment.
