Puerto Rico Highway 181

Puerto Rico Highway 181

Puerto Rico Highway 181 is a highway connecting San Juan, Puerto Rico, at Puerto Rico Highway 17 near Puente Teodoro Moscoso which grants access to the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport to Patillas, Puerto Rico at Puerto Rico Highway 3. It is one of five highways that go through the center of the island (along with PR-149, PR-1, PR-52 and PR-10) from the Atlantic coast to the Caribbean Sea, making it one of the longest highways in the island, near 60 kilometers long.

Divided Highway

Puerto Rico Highway 181 is a main route in the San Juan Metropolitan Area, and the main artery to Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. It has several stop light traffic signals, and has two lanes per direction.

Rural Road

In Trujillo Alto, near Gurabo, it turns into a rural road with very narrow lanes per direction and hard curves, making it dangerous and requiring low speed limits. In Gurabo, it becomes divided in about 1 kilometer as it intersects Puerto Rico Highway 30, and then quickly turns rural. In San Lorenzo its makes intersection with Puerto Rico Highway 183. For the rest of its length it is still rural and as it enters Patillas, it borders lake Carite, before arriving to downtown Patillas, where it meets PR-3.
