Point Turton is a town on the York Peninsula in South Australia, well known for its newly opened pub and fishing spot. It is regularlly featured on fishing shows and prominently featured on SA Getaway shows.
History
Point Turton was named after a double wedding between two parties. The jetty was built in 1876, used to pick up imports of barley, but it now is just a jetty that deals with salmon and prawn intake. Quite recently back in 2007, a storm broke through but did not do any damage.
Attractions
Point Turton has many services such as the Point Turton General Store, Tavern on Turton (above), which recently opened by owners Elaine and Greg Nankivell and a very scenic caravan park. It also has very modern and also very old beach houses along the coast that are private or publicly owned. There is also a ceramic art house in town, as well as some unusual and well painted pieces for sale.
