HMS Black Joke

Three ships of the Royal Navy have borne the name HMS "Black Joke":

*HMS "Black Joke", commissioned in 1793, decommissioned in 1800 and accidentally burnt in the Pool of London in 1802. In 1797 she alerted the Fleet to the Dutch entry into the North Sea before the Battle of Camperdown.
*HMS "Black Joke", a hired armed lugger, commissioned in 1806. In 1809 she assisted in the capture of the French Corvette "La Mouche". She was struck from the list in 1810 or 1811.
*HMS "Black Joke", the captured slave ship "Henriquetta", commissioned in 1827, employed in destroying the slave trade and delibrately burnt in 1832 on orders from London.
