Dawn effect

Dawn effect is defined as an increase in the blood sugar in the morning. It is different from Chronic Somogyi rebound in that dawn effect is not associated with nocturnal hypoglycemia.

Dawn effect is caused by the release of growth hormone, which takes place in the early morning. In most of the cases, there is no need to change insulin dosing of patients who encounter dawn effect.
