List of International Mathematical Olympiads

List of International Mathematical Olympiads

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is an annual six problem, two day, international high school mathematics competition focused primarily on pre-collegiate mathematics, and is the oldest of the international science olympiads.cite web|url=http://olympiads.win.tue.nl/imo/|title=Old IMOs|accessdate=2008-02-06|publisher=University of Eindhoven] Fields such as functional analysis, calculus, field theory (and other branches of abstract algebra and topology) are generally not present on the olympiad. [Harv|Olson|2004|p=4]

The awards for exceptional performance include medals for a fraction of the competitors that is as close to one-half of the participants as the judges can make it, and honorable mentions for participants who solve at least one problem perfectly.cite web|url=http://imo2006.dmfa.si/results_itd.html|title=47th International Mathematical Olympiad Results|accessdate=2008-02-01] This is a list of previous IMOs, the host country of each, and the city in which the olympiads were held. It also includes the cities in which each olympiad was hosted.
