Waves FM

Waves FM

Waves FM is a local radio station based in Peterhead, North East Scotland. The station is on air 24 hours a day with live shows from six am till midnight (apart from "a wave of hits" from 6pm-7pm on weekdays which is not presented by a presenter).

History

Waves AM was born in 1990 after gaining an independent radio licence. The initial reaction to the station when it began transmitting was overwhelming with both the public and the business sector.

In 1994, it was decided to change the whole structure of Waves AM. New premises were found and a permanent studio was built. The broadcasting equipment, normally hired, was purchased along with new studio equipment. Since 1994, the group has gone from strength to strength with the station sounding more professional, utilising the slogan " The Buchan Coast Sound".Over the years, changes have been inevitable and since 1994 considerable efforts have gone into improving the organisation. In order to control and keep the station operating a new company, Waves Radio Limited , was formed on the 30th January 1995.

THE NORTH EAST SOUND was then used as part of the stations image.

The station has never been dependent on charitable or other external financial support, but has been run as a fully self-supporting business, aggressively seeking advertisers and providing them with professionally produced, cost effective advertising.
