Altan Tobchi

The Altan Tobchi ( _mn. Алтан товч, "Golden History") is a national chronicle and set of Mongolian judicial laws over historical content in the 17th century. It was written in 1604. Some parts of the 13th century Mongolian "The Secret History of the Mongols" appear in Altan Tobchi. It is regarded as a classic literature in Mongolia.

The literature of Altan Tobchi is based heavily on Buddhist accounts while there are some example of Tengrism too.

It starts as follows:

Here follows the story how after about 3250 years Burkhan (Buddha) reached Nirvana, Bogdu Chinghis Haan was born in north Mongolia. Dalai Sowin Altan Sandalt Haan (Dalai Sowin Haan with Golden Seat), a descendant of Tibet’s Hüzün Sandalt Khan, had three sons; the eldest brother Borochu, the middle Shibaguchi, and the youngest Börte Chinua. The sons got into conflict and Börte Chinua left for abroad Mongolia in the north crossing over seas and oceans, married with Goo Maral who had no man, settled in the place, and became the Mongol.

Börte Chinua and Goo Maral, who came crossing the seas and the oceans with the Mandate of Heaven, settled in (Mt.) Burkhan Khaldun. Batcagaan was born to them.
