Warr Acres is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States, and a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. It was established after World War II by C.B. Warr, a dynamic businessman, builder, and commercial developer. The population was 9,735 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Warr Acres is located at coor dms|35|31|37|N|97|37|5|W|city (35.526823, -97.617979)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.8 square miles (7.4 km²), of which, 2.8 square miles (7.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.06%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 9,735 people, 3,978 households, and 2,681 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,460.4 people per square mile (1,337.6/km²). There were 4,253 housing units at an average density of 1,511.8/sq mi (584.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 81.51% White, 7.80% African American, 2.55% Native American, 1.96% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.84% from other races, and 3.30% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.68% of the population.

There were 3,978 households out of which 32.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.1% were married couples living together, 15.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 28.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 89.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $36,187, and the median income for a family was $42,475. Males had a median income of $31,127 versus $24,081 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,955. About 7.0% of families and 10.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.0% of those under age 18 and 5.1% of those age 65 or over.
