Wallasey is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Boundaries

The constituency covers the town of Wallasey, at the north of the Wirral Peninsula, including the six areas: Wallasey Village, Seacombe, Egremont, Liscard, New Brighton and Poulton, as well as Moreton and Leasowe. It is one of four constituencies covering the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral.

History

A Conservative seat until 1992, it was held by such well-known Tories as Ernest Marples (former Transport minister) and Lynda Chalker. Increasing unemployment in the area saw the Conservative vote decline throughout the 1980s, with Angela Eagle of the Labour Party gaining the constituency in 1992. Labour have held it comfortably since then.
