Chervettes is a commune in the Charente-Maritime department in the Poitou-Charentes region in southwestern France.

Geography

The commune is located by the proximity of Surgères and Rochefort and Saint-Jean-d'Angély.

The communal area presents a large buildingthat goes from 20 to 28 m in height. The commune is strongly marked by an agricultural area that makes up of cereal crops. The drainage canal can be seen in the area. The agricultural countryside includes the settlements of Chiron and Fief Rolland. The structure concentrates in the town north of the area. It compromises 82.5% of the population in 1999. The rest of the area compromises the two hamlets of Fief Rolland-Varzay (partly in the commune of Puyrolland) and Chiron.

History

An old viticultural commune, Chervettes is marked by an old viticultural properties with a closed heart. Since the outbreak of phylloxera at the end of the 19th century, the commune subsisted three small areas of winery. The church known as Notre-Dame-de-l’Assumption was first constructed in the 15th century. Around the commune, Chiron features a 18th century built mill.

Tourism

Its touristic activity are mainly restrained, notably on the important development project over the user of the old motorcycle and the collection called Surbier 2, the public aura of possibilities ensembles the rare pieces of the Italian origin. The Chinese moto are all placed in merit with the special room that prevents humidity. The particularity of the project makes up of possible use for the terrain specially with the upgraded adapted technology. One of them was introduced in 2007.
