Assaat Datuk Mudo known as Mr. Assaat (September 18, 1904 - June 16, 1976) was born in Banuhampu, West Sumatera, Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). He was former president Republic of Indonesia sat on Yogyakarta part of the United States of Indonesia. Reign from December 1949 until August 1950. He and a number of Indonesia founder, fought for the independence of Indonesia from the Dutch.

Education

His early education, he studied in Islamic school and Dutch schools in Indonesia. He learned Islamic matter in Adabiah, Padang and also in MULO (Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs"). "And next to" School tot Opleiding van Inlandsche Artsen "in Batavia (now in Jakarta). He complated his education in the Netherlands' school with the tittle" Meester in de Rechten "(Bachelor of Law)".

Politic Activities

Activities as politician started in Jong Sumatranen Bond and next joined to "Perhimpunan Pemuda Indonesia". While in the "Rechts Hoge School" his professor hate Assat politic activities and Assaat fell in his exam. He was then entered to Partai Indonesia (Partindo) with Adnan Kapau Gani, Adam Malik, and Amir Sjarifoeddin. After Indonesia independence, he was selected as head of Center of Indonesia National Committee (KNIP) until he sat as president Republic of Indonesia in Yogyakarta. In December 1948, the Dutch launched their second "Police Action" and focused their attack on Yogyakarta. Assat kidnapped by the Dutch army and going into exile in Bangka island with all the other Republican leaders. After moved to Jakarta, Assaat to be Indonesian parliament member. While Natsir as prime minister, he was selected as the government minister. In last 1950s, Assaat began to openly criticize Sukarno and moved to Sumatera joined with Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia. In the last Sukarno regime, Assaat was jailed in 1962-1966.
