History

The WEEY license was originally allocated to Springfield, Vermont, initially under the call letters WCFR-FM, the FM sister station to WCFR (1480). The station took the call letters WMKS in 1987, but in 1992 reverted back to WCFR-FM. After the station was sold to Bob and Shirley Wolf in 1998cite news|url=http://www.bostonradio.org/nerw/nerw-980530.html|title=WNEQ, R.I.P?|last=Fybush|first=Scott|date=1998-05-30|work=North East RadioWatch|accessdate=2008-09-29] , the station ceased its independent programming in favor of simulcasting sister station WMXR (93.9).cite news|url=http://www.bostonradio.org/nerw/nerw-980604.html|title=Tornado Topples WIVT|last=Fybush|first=Scott|date=1998-06-04|work=North East RadioWatch|accessdate=2008-09-29] As a simulcast of WMXR, formats included oldies, ACcite news|url=http://www.bostonradio.org/nerw/nerw-000407.html|title="Quick," What's On 93.5/93.9?|last=Fybush|first=Scott|date=2000-04-07|work=North East RadioWatch|accessdate=2008-09-29] , and country.

Clear Channel Communications bought WCFR and WMXR in 2001cite news|url=http://www.bostonradio.org/nerw/nerw-010115.html|title=Citadel, WROL, and WKOX -- Sold!|last=Fybush|first=Scott|date=2001-01-15|work=North East RadioWatch|accessdate=2008-09-29] , and merged the stations' country format (branded as "Bob Country") with that of its own WXXK (100.5), branded "Kixx".cite news|url=http://www.bostonradio.org/nerw/nerw-010404.html|title=Take Me Out to the Ban Game|last=Fybush|first=Scott|date=2001-04-04|work=North East RadioWatch|accessdate=2008-09-29] That October, the station would change its call letters to WXKK to reflect the station's new simulcast partner.cite news|url=http://www.bostonradio.org/nerw/nerw-011029.html|title="North East RadioWatch"|last=Fybush|first=Scott|date=2001-10-29|accessdate=2008-09-29]

By September 2004, WXKK had reverted to AC in a simulcast with WGXL (92.3); in that month, the station converted to a simulcast of WTSL (1400)'s news/talk programmingcite news|url=http://www.fybush.com/NERW/2004/040927/nerw.html|title=Rhode Islanders Fight WRNI Sale|last=Fybush|first=Scott|date=2004-09-27|work=NorthEast Radio Watch|accessdate=2008-09-29] as WTSM. Clear Channel sold its stations in the Lebanon, New Hampshire market to Great Eastern Radio in January 2007cite web |work=North East Radio Watch |first=Scott |last=Fybush |date=2007-01-22 |title=Shapiro's Back in the Upper Valley |url=http://www.fybush.com/NERW/2007/070122/nerw.html#vt] , and two months later reverted WTSM to the WXXK simulcast.cite web |work=North East Radio Watch |first=Scott |last=Fybush |date=2007-03-26 |title=Rhode Island Public Radio Gets Local |url=http://www.fybush.com/NERW/2007/070326/nerw.html#vt] By the time of the consummation of the sale to Great Eastern Radio, WTSM had gone silent.cite web|url=http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getattachment_exh.cgi?exhibit_id=632853|title=Request for Special Temporary Authority|format=PDF|date=2008-04-08|work=Notification of Suspension of Operations / Request for Silent STA|publisher=Federal Communications Commission|accessdate=2008-08-30]

On June 8, 2007, WTSM was granted a construction permit to change its community of license to Swanzey, New Hampshire. This allowed the station to better serve the Keene, New Hampshire, market.cite web |work=North East Radio Watch |first=Scott |last=Fybush |title=FCC Window Brings Big Changes |url=http://www.fybush.com/NERW/2007/070129/nerw.html#vt |date=2007-01-29] As a result, when WTSM's attempt to return on January 25, 2008 was canceled by an interference complaint, the station permanently shut down the transmitting facility in Springfield, as the interference concerns would be alleviated by the relocation of the station. When WTSM completed its move on September 15, 2008, the station resumed operations with sports talk provided by Boston's WEEI, under the call letters WEEY.cite press release |title=WEEI Sports Radio Network Expands to Portland, Bangor & Keene |publisher=Entercom Communications |date=2008-08-20 |url=http://imgsrv.weei.com/image/weei/UserFiles/WEEINorthNetworkPressRelease81908.pdf |format=PDF |accessdate=2008-08-20 ] The simulcast of WEEI began broadcasting on October 5, 2008.
