United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 7.7square mile s (19.9km² ), of which, 7.7 square miles (19.8 km²) of it is land and 0.13% is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 12,513 people, 4,990 households, and 3,468 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 1,634.6 people per square mile (630.7/km²). There were 5,251 housing units at an average density of 686.0/sq mi (264.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 87.09% White, 5.01% African American, 0.25% Native American, 6.39% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.97% of the population.There were 4,990 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 25.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $61,591, and the median income for a family was $69,494. Males had a median income of $52,743 versus $35,060 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $33,801. About 3.8% of families and 4.7% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 6.8% of those under age 18 and 2.9% of those age 65 or over.Education
Blue Ash is mostly served by the
Sycamore Community School District which has had the most National Merit Scholars of any public school inOhio for the past four years and has been given the highest rating of "Excellent" by theOhio Department of Education for eight consecutive years. Private education is provided byMoeller High School for high school boys,Ursuline Academy is for high school girls.Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy serves grades k-12. Blue Ash is also home to Raymond Walters College, a satellite campus ofUniversity of Cincinnati .Events
Blue Ash offers three summer events each year: "Summerbration"; "Red, White, and Blue Ash"; and "Taste of Blue Ash". "Red, White and Blue Ash" is held annually on July 4th and features the biggest Independence Day firework display in the region.
