Olmsted Falls is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,962 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Olmsted Falls is located at 41°22′3″N 81°54′17″W / 41.3675°N 81.90472°W / 41.3675; -81.90472 (41.367626, -81.904818)[4]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 square miles (11 km2), all of it land.

Education

The Olmsted Falls school system educates students from Olmsted Falls, parts of Columbia Station, part of Berea, and from neighboring Olmsted Township. There are five schools in the school system, Early Childhood Center, Falls-Lenox Primary School, Olmsted Falls Intermediate School, Olmsted Falls Middle School, and Olmsted Falls High School. The school colors are blue and gold, and their mascot is a bulldog.

Athletics

In December 2000, The Bulldog football team won the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II State Championship, defeating Piqua 21-0 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon, OH.

The Lady Bulldog volleyball team won the State Championships in 2008.

Katie Nageotte won the Pole Vaulting State Championship her senior year in 2009.

Gus O'Neill won The All Ohio Hip Hop Dance Off in 2010.

Government

Executive

The mayor is the ceremonial head of government. He/She is full-time and presides over city council meetings, has the power to veto council actions and also acts as the Safety Director for the city. Current mayor Magistra Czupik was a three term member of city council before being elected mayor in 1999.

Legislative

The City Council of Olmsted Falls consists of seven members elected to two year terms; Lydia Soto-Kaciek Council President, Alex Martin Council President Pro-Tempore, Leslie Pickenheim Council-At-Large, Clerk of Council, Edgar Berry representative for Ward 1, Katherin Muck representative for Ward 2, Miss Swanson representative for Ward 3, and Jared Schneider representative for Ward 4. It is a "strong Council - weak Mayor" form of government, with the Mayor not holding any voting rights on Council.

Judicial

The Mayor's Court of Olmsted Falls is located in the City Hall building.
