When it was created in England in 1979, it consisted of the Westminster Parliament constituencies of Bethnal Green and Bow, Chingford, Hackney Central, Hackney North and Stoke Newington, Hackney South and Shoreditch, Leyton, Newham North West, Newham South, Stepney and Poplar, Walthamstow, [cite web |url=http://www.election.demon.co.uk/ |title=David Boothroyd's United Kingdom Election Results |accessdate=2008-01-20] although this may not have been true for the whole of its existence.
