James Andrew Freir (born June 3 1982 in Spalding, Lincolnshire) is a radio broadcaster in the United Kingdom. He formerly presented the Saturday afternoon show on QMR.fm. He rose to prominence in the early-2000s as a nightclub DJ in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, before moving to radio broadcasting with CMP Radio and QMR.fm. Freir has worked with top national DJs such as Jamie Murray.

Biography

Early life and education

Freir, the son of Trevor and Annette, spent his early years in Spalding, Lincolnshire, where he attended St John's Baptist School. In 1988 his family moved to West Linton, in Edinburgh, Scotland where he attended Peebles High School. In 1998, his family relocated again; this time to Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Here, he attended Scarborough Sixth Form College and the University of Hull where he achieved a First Class Honours in Business and Management.

Radio career

Freir rose to prominence in 2003 when he joined CMP Radio - a worldwide internet-based radio station which gained fame after being featured on BBC News. With the closure of CMP Radio in December 2004, Freir was signed by rival station QMR.fm. His tenure at QMR, however, came to an end in 2006 when the station went through a change of management which saw many existing presenters leave the station.

Freir's friendship with Chris Reardon has been well documented, with Reardon once referring to Freir in Amastude Magazine as his 'rock'.Fact|date=January 2008

how format

Freir's radio show consisted mainly of music and light banter - mostly aimed at other presenters. His on-air 'rivalry' with co-presenter Adam Croft was a long-standing selling point for the station. Freir and Croft rarely presented radio shows that didn't feature consecutively. In April 2006, Freir performed an on-air April Fools prank which consisted of him impersonating Adam Croft and presenting the first period of his show as him.

Personal life

Freir currently has two houses in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, where he lives with his long-term girlfriend, Tracy Hughes, and their dog, Lizzie. They are currently expecting their first child. Freir is a keen supporter of Scarborough Athletic and Heart of Midlothian Football Club.
