Thai general election, 1996

General elections were held in Thailand on 17 November 1996. The New Aspiration Party of former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh won 125 seats. Democrat Party won 123 seats.

The New Aspiration won a majority and led government coalition with National Development Party, Thai Citizen Party and Mass Party. Chavalit Yongchaiyudh was elected prime minister of Thailand.
