Local Legends

In December of 1993, a flock of Canadian geese landed in a small pond in the town of Peachland, North Carolina. While sleeping in the pond over night, it froze over. When the geese awoke in the morning to find their lower halves were frozen inside the pond, they panicked. Desperately trying to break free, the geese flapped their wings so fiercely they actually lifted a large majority of the frozen pond in the air. From Peachland they traveled due south, with the large mass of ice in tow.

Passersby on Highway 74 West saw the large flying object and called 911, reporting it as a UFO. Little did they know it was the geese. The townspeople would realize it was the pond the next morning when the majority was missing. To this day there is a valley where the pond used to be. The area is overgrown by trees and brush where a sewage pipeline runs through. The area where the pond used to be is located at the corner of Passaic St. and Highway 74. No one knows what happened to the geese or the chunk of ice.
