John Delbert Barnes (born April 24, 1976 in San Diego, California) is a professional baseball outfielder and pitcher. Barnes is a graduate of Granite Hills High School and attended Grossmont College in El Cajon, California

Career

Barnes was selected in the 4th Round of by|1996 amateur entry draft by the Boston Red Sox. In 1996 and by|1997 he played in the Red Sox minor league system for the Gulf Coast Red Sox and Michigan Battle Cats. In by|1998, he was traded along with Joe Thomas and Matt Kinney to the Minnesota Twins for Greg Swindell and Orlando Merced.

He played during two seasons at the major league level for the Minnesota Twins. In September by|2001 he was placed on waivers by the Twins and claimed by the Colorado Rockies and played the entire by|2002 season for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. At the end of the 2002 season he was granted free agency.

In by|2003, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league affiliate Nashville Sounds. In by|2004 he played in the Los Angeles Dodgers system for the Gulf Coast Dodgers and Las Vegas 51s.

In by|2005 Barnes played for the Atlanta Braves organization with the Mississippi Braves and the Richmond Braves. In by|2006 he returned to the Red Sox organization and switched to being a pitcher from playing the outfielder position. Between 2006 and by|2007, Barnes worked his way up from Gulf Coast Red Sox to the Pawtucket Red Sox.
