Shaving mug

Shaving mug

A shaving mug is a device used during a wet shave, when using a shaving brush and soap, and is traditionally used to hold the block of soap, and to build the lather up with using the brush, however it can also be used with soft shaving creams and soaps.

Typically made of metal or a ceramic, it will often look like a standard mug, however, some also have a built in brush rest, so the brush does not sit in lather. Another similar device, a "Scuttle", also has a spout in which to place your shaving brush before and during the shaving process, and between applications of shaving soap.

However it must be noted, that today, the term " 'Shaving mug' " is often used interchangably to describe a mug or a spouted scuttle, whereas a " 'Shaving scuttle' " is never used to describe a shaving mug.
