The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Miami 2008 Host Committee, Inc., is a non-profit public-private-partnership established to coordinate the 2008 Annual Meeting of the IDB on behalf of the United States. [ [http://www.idbmiami08.org/ IDB ] ]

In past years the IDB Annual Meeting has been paid for primarily by the government of the country hosting the event. This year, in Miami, the private sector will play an unprecedented role in planning and executing the Meeting. Representing South Florida’s economic dynamism and commitment to the Western Hemisphere, the Host Committee is composed of local and national leaders in banking, telecom, media, infrastructure, and government who share a profound commitment to social and economic development in the Americas. The IDB Miami 2008 Host Committee invites companies, universities, and institutions, to join the Committee in planning and executing the Annual Meeting, with the twin goals of raising $8 million to finance the meeting and engaging the private sector in the essential development work of the IDB.

The Chairman of the IDB Miami 2008 Host Committee is Jorge L. Arrizurieta, [ [http://www.akerman.com/public/attorneys/aBiography.asp?id=946 Akerman Senterfitt - Attorney - Jorge L. Arrizurieta ] ] whose leadership in planning the IDB Annual Meeting is a continuation of his 20-year career promoting South Florida as the gateway to the Americas. Mr. Arrizurieta has held numerous private- and public-sector positions, notably chief executive of Florida FTAA, Inc., where he was responsible for developing and implementing strategies for securing Miami as the site of the Permanent Secretariat of the Free Trade Area of the Americas, and the 10th U.S. Alternate Executive Director of the IDB. He is currently Chair of the International Policy Group at law firm Akerman Senterfitt.
