IIB Bank PLC is one of the leading non-retail banks in Ireland with offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast.

It was established in 1973 as "Irish Intercontinental Bank" and has been a subsidiary of KBC Bank, which is headquartered in Brussels. When KBC acquired a full 100% shareholding in IIB in 2000, the bank's name was changed to its present one.

IIB provides a wide range of banking services including Corporate, Commercial and Business Banking, Private Banking and Treasury & Capital Markets. Its mortgage division, IIB Homeloans, is a leading mortgage provider in Ireland.

As of the 27th of October 2008 IIB Bank will become KBC Bank Ireland plc.



1. Why are we changing from IIB to KBC?

This is the 30th anniversary of KBC’s ownership of IIB Bank. The name change from IIB Bank and IIB Homeloans to KBC Bank Ireland plc and KBC Homeloans respectively represents a new and very exciting phase in the IIB and KBC relationship which commenced in 1978 when KBC acquired a 75% shareholding increasing this to 100% in 1999.

It is part of KBC’s initiative to bring a consistent global identity to its worldwide operations. By adopting the name of our parent, we will:

Strengthen our growing presence in the Irish Market.Benefit, to an even greater extent, from the financial strength and reputation of the KBC Group, attributes which are becoming increasingly important in the current financial markets. Provide us enhanced access to KBC’s ever increasing product portfolio and geographically expanding network. Benefit from the strong brand image associated with one of Europe’s most respected banks.

2. KBC’s success story:

The KBC Group (KBC) is a successful banking and insurance group serving over 12 million customers worldwide. KBC’s group structure can be broken down in 5 business units:

KBC is also present in various other countries in Western Europe and to a lesser extent in the US and Southeast Asia. In total, KBC is active in more than 30 countries.

KBC's standing as an international corporate force can be seen in a survey of the world’s largest companies published recently by the Financial Times. In the survey, the "FT Global 500 2008", KBC was ranked in 171st position according to market capitalisation. Of Irish companies including banks, only CRH appears in the top 500, in 455th position. The same survey also ranked KBC as the 35th largest bank in the world.

KBC Asset Management Ltd, Dublin (KBCAM) based in Dublin, KBCAM is a leading provider of innovative investment management products for Irish and international pension funds, charities and corporates.

KBC Bank NV Dublin Branch a full branch of KBC, has operated since 1992 from the IFSC and Sandwith Street, providing credit facilities in the form of syndicated loans to Sovereigns, Banks and corporates in designated areas of the world, including the Nordic area, Southern Europe and Central Europe.
