The Rural City of Seymour was a Local Government Area located about convert|100|km|mi|0 north of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of convert|945.07|km2|sqmi|1, and existed from 1863 until 1994.

History

Seymour was first incorporated as a district on 5 May 1863, and became a shire on 24 February 1871. It lost part of its area to the Shire of Yea on 15 May 1907.cite book|title=Victorian Municipal Directory|year=1992|publisher=Arnall & Jackson|location=Brunswick|pages=828-829 Accessed at State Library of Victoria, La Trobe Reading Room.] It was made a Rural City in 1993.

On 18 November 1994, Seymour was abolished, and merged with the Shires of Broadford, Kilmore, Pyalong and parts of McIvor into the Shire of Mitchell. The Avenel district was transferred to the Shire of Strathbogie.
