Terry Hollands (born on June 6, 1979 Dartford, Kent, England), [http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/article-interview-terry-hollands.aspx muscletalk] accessed 03/01/08] is one of the world's leading strongman competitors and was Britain's Strongest Man (2007).

Early Life

Terry Hollands was born in 1979 in Dartford, Kent. He was a keen sportsman in his childhood and teens, playing Judo and Rugby Union. However, despite sport being a big part of his life, he did not start serious gym training until he was 22. This was in order to help his rugby, and was mainly focused on endurance type training. In 2004 he was forced to be house-bound due to a leg infection and on his return to the gym he became focused on strongman training. His gym training was performed at his local gym, Reflections in Dartford, and for event training he attended Flex Appeal in Tankerton.

His training schedule has been described as "ferociously unforgiving" and he has espoused the benefits of visualisation techniques saying "you can't get by without it."

trongman Career

Hollands career as a strongman began in 2005 and success was almost immediate. He came second in England's Strongest Man in that year and went on to win the more coveted UK's Strongest Man in the same year. In 2006 he lost his UK title to the experienced and established Glenn Ross but turned his attention to "ultimate" title within the British Isles, Britain's Strongest Man. In 2006 he was placed third and this qualified him for the World's Strongest Man 2006 competition, although he did not make the final of that event. In 2007 he took the title of Britain's Strongest Man and went on to the World's to finish third, the first time a Briton has achieved a top 3 place in over 10 years. The 2008 Britain's Strongest Man saw Hollands have a poor first day, blighted at the very beginning by an injury to his left hand in the Farmer's Walk. However, on the second day he began to perform at a higher level, but he had to concede his title to Jimmy Marku, coming second overall. Hollands' motivation remains clear when he said: "At the end of the day, I want to be the World's Strongest Man and I will not stop going until I am the World's Strongest Man." Personal Life

Hollands lives in Dartford with his girlfriend Carley of whom he has said: "She's very supportive of me. I certainly wouldn't be doing as well as I have without her." When asked where would he live should he ever become the World's Strongest Man he replied "I'll probably just stay in Dartford. It's really nice round here."
