Fiona O'Malley (born 19 January 1968) is an Irish Progressive Democrats politician and is currently a member of the 23rd Seanad Éireann having been nominated by the Taoiseach. She was formerly a Teachta Dála (TD) for Dún Laoghaire from 2002 until 2007.

__TOC__

O'Malley comes from a famous political family. Her father, Desmond O'Malley, was a former Fianna Fáil Cabinet Minister and founder of the Progressive Democrats. Her grand-uncle was Donogh O'Malley, an innovative minister in the 1960s. She is also a cousin of another former Progressive Democrats TD, Tim O'Malley.

Her first political position was as elected member of the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council from 1997. She was re-elected in 1999 and resigned her council seat in 2003 when the dual mandate was no longer allowed.

She was a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Sports and Tourism and the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children. She was also a member of the Dáil All-Party group concerned with matters of sexual and reproductive health. She has travelled to South America and South Africa with the United Nations Population Fund and has spoken extensively of the need for a clear safe sex message both in Ireland and in the developing world.

She was narrowly defeated in the race to become the 4th Leader of the Progressive Democrats by Senator Ciarán Cannon of Galway East. She currently serves as the party Spokesperson on Energy, Arts and Culture.

Dublin South by-election

O'Malley has been selected as the Progressive Democrats candidate to contest the upcoming Dublin South by-election called to fill the Dáil Éireann seat left vacant due to the death of former minister Séamus Brennan.
