CATS pipeline

CATS pipeline

CATS pipeline ("Central Area Transmission System") is a convert|404|km|mi|-1 long natural gas pipeline in North Sea. The pipeline runs from CATS Riser Platform adjacent to the BP operated Everest gas field in the Central North Sea, some convert|230|km|mi|-1 east of Aberdeen, to the CATS processing terminal in Teesside, England.

The CATS pipeline became operational in 1993. It was originally conceived to carry natural gas from the Everest and Lomond fields, but now takes gas also from other fields through six connection points, known as 'tees', and seven CATS hubs. The pipeline has diameter of convert|36|in|mm|0 and capacity 17.5 billion cubic meter (bcm) of natural gas per annum. The outside of the pipe is coated in concrete.

BG Group has a 51.18% interest in the CATS pipeline. Other partners are Amerada Hess, ConocoPhillips, Eni, and Total. The operator is BP.
