Aero Caribbean (Empresa Aerocaribbean SA) is an airline based in Havana, Cuba. It operates scheduled domestic passenger services to four domestic destinations and international services, as well as charter flights mainly within the Caribbean and South America. Its main base is José Martí International Airport, HavanaFlight International 27 March 2007] .

History

The airline was established in 1982 and started operations on 2 December 1982. It was set up by the Cuban government to provide domestic flights and regional charters to supplement national carrier Cubana. It is wholly owned by the government of Cuba. Incidents

On November 12, 1992, an Il-18 on a charter flight from Santo Domingo to Havana crashes into the side of mount Isabel de Torres, near San Felipe de Puerto Plata, while on approach to Gregorio Luperón International Airport for an intermediate stop [ [http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19921115-0&lang=en] Aviation Safety Network. Accessed 2008-08-26.] . The plane was apparently in IFR conditions and performed a controlled flight into terrain.
