Aladdin's Magic Carpet

Aladdin's Magic Carpet

Aladdin's Magic Carpet or Carpet is an animated character in the Disney film, "Aladdin". The carpet is often viewed as the genie's sidekick, and becomes one of Aladdin's along with Abu the monkey. The carpet is first seen in the Cave of Wonders. He unwillingly scares Abu, after following the monkey through the first portion of the Cave. Aladdin becomes aware of the carpet because of Abu's nervous behavior, and invites the carpet to join them on their search for the lamp, much to Abu's dismay. The carpet leads them through the cave, and stays with Abu while Aladdin goes up the staircase to fetch the lamp. Carpet tries his best to keep Abu from touching the "forbidden treasure", but fails after a desperate pull on the monkey's tail. After Abu touches the forbidden treasure, the cave turns into a river of molten lava. Carpet comes to Aladdin and Abu's rescue, zooming them back through the cave. A boulder falls and traps the carpet, leaving Aladdin and Abu hanging on a thin ledge of rock near the mouth of the cave. Carpet manages to escape the rock and rescue his new friends just before they hit the rocky bottom.

Carpet appears when the genie comes out of the lamp, hanging around Aladdin as he sings "Friend Like Me". Carpet and Genie appear to be old pals, and the genie shows obvious joy when he sees him ("Hey Carpet, man, haven't seen you in a couple o' millennia!"). He also appears throughout the rest of the movie, playing the bulk of his role in "Whole New World", where he carries Aladdin and Princess Jasmine through the starry night skies.
