Leith Primary School

Leith Primary School

Leith Primary School is a state school for 5-11 year olds in the Leith district of Edinburgh, Scotland. The school serves around 240 pupils and is a feeder school for Leith Academy. The school also has a nursery for pre-school children. The last HMIE inspection report on the nursery is referenced below. The most recent HMIE report on the school was in May 2000, with a follow-up letter in 2002.

Building

The present site in St. Andrew's Place, Leith Links has been the location of the school since 1806 although the origins of the school can be traced back to the 15th century. The current building was opened in 1898, and is the second to stand on this site. Originally this provided education from infants to 14 year olds and the building is a well recognised landmark. Inside there are tall staircases, long corridors and high ceilings where many of the original Victorian features are still in evidence.
