Silvia Gerasch

Sylvia Gerasch (born March 16, 1969) is a German former swimmer.

Early life

She was born in Cottbus, East Germany in 1969.

Career

Gerasch was sixteen years of age when she participated in the 1983 European Championships, and placed second behind Ute Geweniger in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. In the subsequent European Championships she achieved her first international title in the 100m breaststroke.

At the 1986 World Aquatics Championships, she achieved the World Championship titles in the 100m breaststroke, and the 4 × 100m layer freestyle with teammates Kristin Otto, Kathrin Zimmermann and Kornelia Greßler. Her first and only Olympic appearnace was at the 2000 Sydney Olympics competing for a unified Germany and finishing 8th in the 100m breaststroke and was part of the fourth-place German 4*100m medley relay team.
