Alpha-ribazole phosphatase

In enzymology, an alpha-ribazole phosphatase (EC number|3.1.3.73) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:alpha-ribazole 5'-phosphate + H₂O $ightleftharpoons$ alpha-ribazole + phosphate

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are alpha-ribazole 5'-phosphate and H₂O, whereas its two products are alpha-ribazole and phosphate.

This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on phosphoric monoester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is alpha-ribazole-5'-phosphate phosphohydrolase. This enzyme is also called CobC. This enzyme participates in porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism.
